RTCA Wraps Up Regular Season

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders softball team wrapped up their regular season on Monday of this week. They took on Pinewood Christian on Wednesday of last week, and then Trinity Christian on Thursday before the final game on Monday this week against Fullington. RTCA won 2-3 games. vs. Pinewood

It was a battle between the two rivals. RTCA had the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning, but five runs for Pinewood in the bottom of the second moved them in front. In the top of the third inning the Crusaders rallied down 5-1. It was started by a leadoff walk by Marli McCrannie, singles by Ellie Graham, Charlee Ely, Railee Thomas and Maddie Williams and finished by a quality at bat by Morgan Newsome to tie the score at 5-5. In the top of the fourth inning RTCA got a big hit from Thomas as she blasted a three-run home run for RTCA to give them an 8-5 lead. Meredith Durden did just enough in the circle as Pinewood plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but RTCA held on to get the win, 8-7.

Coach Fitzgerald said, “The rally down four in the 3rd inning was clutch. We have been in good position in our region losses as far as having scoring chances but haven't been able to muster a key hit, but we finally broke through and were able to get several key hits. What made it even better was that we had a poor defensive effort in the previous bottom half giving up five on some plays we would like to make but didn't, and our girls didn't quit, picking each other up with that rally. Meredith, beside that one inning where things didn't go well, responded to a visit to the mound, settled back in and was great the rest of the way.” vs. Trinity

Against Trinity it was Durden that came through at the plate with 3 RBI's, but it wasn't enough as they dropped the Region contest. Trinity scored three runs in the first inning, and then two more in the second to take control of the game. RTCA managed three in the top of the third to close the lead to 5-3. RTCA added another in the fifth inning to make it 5-4, but one more run from Trinity in the sixth secured the win, 6-4. vs. Fullington

RTCA won on Monday in their final game of the regular season. The Lady Crusaders scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead, but Fullington came back in the top of the fourth with four runs to jump on top, 4-3. RTCA rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning with two more runs to take the win over the Trojans, 5-4. RTCA will prepare now for the playoffs.
