VHS Cross Country Runs In Hazlehurst

The Southern Georgia Championship Cross Country meet was held Thursday, September 23, in Hazlehurst. With favorable weather conditions and a flat course, the Indians turned in some exceptional performances in both the boys and girls races.

Girls The Lady Indians had three girls medal; Sarah Owen-8th place, a time of 21:38. Georgia Meredith-10th Place, time 21:57 (personal best), and Kaitlyn Allen-13th Place, time 22:28 (personal best). Aleaha Ajoda also had a personal best time of 25:01, and rounding out the VHS top five scoring runners was Allie Whitaker. The Lady Indians placed second as a team to Bleckley County in a field of 20 teams.

Head Coach Mandy Godbee said, “Every week these runners blow through their personal best times and exceed the goals we have set for them. They are running very well right now and have their sights set on a Region Championship in October.

“Standout performance this week came from Freshman Georgia Meredith. She began her career as an Indian in August, turning in a time of 24:17. In her race on Thursday, Georgia showed her physical and mental toughness by busting through another obstacle and running a sub 22 minute race. She is a fierce competitor and a very talented runner!”

Boys

The boys team also had several personal best performances. Luke Palmer had a season best time of 18:03 and placed 9th. Daniel Hodges had a very strong race putting in another personal best time-18:47. Andrew Hodges-19:04 ran a personal best, and Jude Owen-19:34 had a personal best. The boys team placed fifth out of 25 teams.
