RTCA Battles With SGA

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders football team took on Southwest Georgia Academy last Friday night on the road in a very high scoring game. The two teams combined for a total of 112 points. RTCA kept the game close in the first quarter, but in the second SGA pulled away and RTCA couldn’t make up the difference. RTCA got on the board first with a 56yard run by Jashaun Powell early in the first quarter. They missed the extra point but led the game 6-0. SGA took the lead on a 38-yard run and added on the PAT for a 7-6 lead over the Crusaders. They extended that lead to 14-6 on another long run halfway through the first quarter.

RTCA tied the game at 14-14 when Powell broke free for a 57-yard run. RTCA added the two-point conversion to tie the game. RTCA went back on top late in the first quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run by Hunter Ennis to cap off a drive. They went again for the two-point conversion, but this time were kept out of the end zone but led the game 20- 14.

SGA added one more touchdown in the first quarter as they went in from 34 yards out and added the extra point to hold a 21-20 lead at the end of the first.

In the second quarter it was all SGA. They added three more touchdowns on runs of 15 yards, 28 yards, and 3 yards to push their lead to 41-20 by the end of the first half.

RTCA and SGA traded scores in the third period with RTCA scoring on a 25-yard pass from TJ Stanley to Tripp Durden and on a 60-yard kickoff return by Durden. SGA scored on a 52-yard run and on a 7-yard run. That made the score 54-33, but SGA added one more in the third to hold a 60-33 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

SGA scored one time in the fourth, but RTCA added two touchdowns on a 9-yard pass from Stanley to Powell and on a 5-yard Ennis run. That made the final score of the game 66-46.

The teams combined for a total of 1,012 yards in the game.

RTCA Head Coach Jacob Lord said, 'Our offense was clicking on the night. Jashaun Powell had a heck of a night for us totaling 3 TD's. 2 Rushing (173 yards) and 1 Reception (32 yards). With a total of 205 for the night. Jashaun's rushing night wouldn't have been possible without the Big Hogs up front. Freshman Cameron Hinson, Junior Kenny Anderson, Freshman Bishop Lampp, Sophomore Hunter Sikes and Freshman Gage Brantley. The Offensive Line helped us Rush for a total of 285 yards on Friday Night.

“Tripp Durden led the team in receiving with 73 yards and also had an 85-yard Kickoff Return for a TD. Totaling 158 Total All Purpose Yards. Freshman TJ Stanley finished the night going 10/17 with 147 passing yards, 2 Touchdown passes and 1 interception. “We continue to improve weekly. Now we just must put all 3 phases of the game together, and what better week to do that than Homecoming week.”

RTCA will host St. Andrews for Homecoming this week with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p. m.
