Treutlen Gets 1st Win

The Treutlen High School Vikings football team hosted the Panthers of Portal on Friday of last week and picked up their first win of the season.

Treutlen got the scoring started in the first quarter of the game when Qamar Jordan capped off a drive with a 4-yard touchdown run. The extra point was blocked, but that gave the Vikings a 6-0 lead over Portal with just over two minutes left in the quarter. In the second quarter the Panthers put their first points on the board. A Treutlen turnover led to the touchdown with five minutes left in the first half. They added the two-point conversion to take an 8-6 lead over Truetlen.

Neither team scored over the remainder of the first half or in the third quarter of the game. But in the fourth quarter the Vikings got to work. They added the first touchdown on a run by quarterback Jordan Coney from two yards out. That put Treutlen on top 12-8.

The final score of the game came with a bit of luck. Coney was running toward the end zone when he had the ball stripped away. It went into the end zone where it was recovered by Kolby McLendon for the Vikings touchdown. That made the final score of the game 18-8.

The Vikings are now 1-2 on the season. This week they will be in Wrightsville to take on Johnson County with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
