Wheeler Splits Games

The Wheeler County High School softball team is off to a solid start as they improved their record for the season to 5-1, and 4-1 in Region 4A. They split their games last week with a loss to Hawkinsville at home on Tuesday, and then came back with a win over Dublin on the road on Thursday.

The Red Devils of Hawksinsville pulled ahead with two runs in the top of the first inning. They added two more in the second with Wheeler getting on the board with one run in the bottom of the frame. But Hawkinsville led 4-1.

Neither team scored over the next two innings, but in the top of the fifth the Devils plated one more run, and then put two more on the board in the sixth inning to push their lead to 7-1. Wheeler did score one more in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Hawkinsville answered with one more in the top of the seventh inning on the way to an 8-2 win.

On Thursday the Bulldogs took care of the Lady Irish in Dublin in a Region win. Wheeler rolled to an 11-1 win over Dublin as they bounced back from the loss to Hawkinsville.

This week Wheeler was scheduled to face Telfair County on Tuesday at home after presstime. They will be back on the diamond on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in Rochelle as they face Wilcox County.
