Smith Signs With BPC Smith Signs With BPC

Jasmine Smith of Vidalia High School signed her letter of intent on Monday of this week to be a part of the Brewton-Parker College track & field team. Smith was a thrower for the Indians and holds the school record in both the shot put and the discus. Smith was the Region Champion in both the shot put and discus, won Sectionals in discus and was 3rd in shot put, and was 6th in discus and 8th in shot put at the State Meet. Smith will be taking those talents over to BPC as she continues her career and gets her education.

Smith said, “I think this is a great opportunity for me, and I'm very thankful to be getting this scholarship. I look forward to furthering my career in track, and continuing to get better. I also want to be a nurse and they just are getting their program going so I think that is a great chance to be a part of that new program. I want to thank my family for all they have done, and of course all of the coaches, teachers, and my teammates.”

Here father James Jermon stated, “We feel amazing. To see all the hard work that she has put in and to get this chance is just great. Her mom has pushed her and has always been her greatest fan. We are so thankful for everyone at VHS and for those at Brewton-Parker.” Coach Mandy Godbee added, “I am so proud of her. I know Jasmine has been the foundation of our team. She has always done what she has needed to, been where she needed to be, and has helped this team so much. She led in all of our fundraisers, set school records, won Region, I could't have asked for anything more.”
