The Vidalia High School track teams traveled to the Outback Invitational hosted by Eagle's Landing High School on Saturday of last week in McDonough. The boys team took third place with the girls finishing in fourth.

Girls

While falling a little short of their goal, the Lady Indians finished fourth as a team to Woodward Academy- 1st with 138 points, Carrollton High School-2nd with 128, Union Grove-3rd with 82, and Vidalia was 4th with 76.5 points. Sarah Owen led the team by placing 2nd in the 800m run, matching her old school record with a 2:29. She also had a personal best time in the 1,600m nearly breaking the school record with a time of 5:34, placing 5th. She placed 6th in the 3,200m and was the anchor leg on the 4x400m relay which placed 3rd. Coach Mandy Godbee said, “Owen is the perfect combination of grit, determination, perseverance and discipline. Over the course of 4-5 hours she races in the 3200, 1600, 800 and is one of the fastest legs on our 4×400 team.” Jasmine Smith had an outstanding day in the throwing events with a season best in the shot put of 34'4', which earned her a 3rd place finish. She also placed 4th in the discus.

Also scoring points for the Lady Indians were Hayden Williamson with 2nd in the high jump, Kyleigh Johnson with 3rd in the 300m hurdles and 5thin the 100m hurdles, Myesha Hall was 4th in the long jump and 5th in the triple jump, and Diamond Cook was 5th in the discus.

The 4x400m relay team of Moriah Wardlaw, Johnson, Aleria Simpson, and Owen took 3rd.

Boys

Michael Madison was the only Champion from Vidalia as he won the 200m dash with a time of 22.01 and placed 2nd in the 100m with a time of 10.98. While neither times were his personal best, he is running extremely well with his sights on a State Championship according to Goebee. Madison was also a member of the 4x100m relay that ran a season best time of 43.05 and placed 3rd. The boys team finished third to Carrollton High School with 150 points, Woodward Academy with 76, and Vidalia had 69.5.

Godbee added, “As a team these young men are competing with the best in the state and getting priceless recognition from other programs across the state.”

Others scoring for the Indians were Jaylin Burns with 3rd in the shot put, Sinclair Williams was 3rd in the high jump, Brandon Beasley was 4th in the triple jump and 5th in the long jump, Camron Glasper was 5th in the 300m hurdles, Kaylan Johnson was 5th in the triple jump and 8th in the long jump, and Matt Hill was 6th in the long jump and 7th in the triple jump.

The 4x100m relay team of Madison, Williams, Jordan Powell, and Tyran Jacobs took 3rd. The 4x800m relay team of Andrew Hodges, Crhistian Williams, Glasper, and Jace Gabbardalso finished in 3rd. And the 4x400m relay team of Marquell Middleton, Beasley, Josh Mincey, and Williams was 4th.
