Vikings Sweep Devils

The Vikings baseball team of Treutlen County High School swept the Red Devils of Hawkinsville in a Region series last week as they improved their overall record to 11-4 and they are 11-1 now in Region play.

Game 1

The first game of the three-game series was on Tuesday at home. It was a close game, but the Vikings pulled out the win, 3-1 over Hawkinsville. The Devils got on the board first with a run in the top of the second inning, but Treutlen tied the game in the bottom of the third. The Vikings then went ahead in the fifth inning as they plated two runs, to go up 3-1. Treutlen held onto that lead and got the win to kick off the Region series. Logan Hughes led the Vikings with two RBI's in the game. Harrison Rutherford was the winning pitcher for the Vikings.

Game 2

The second game of the series was the first of a double header on Friday in Hawkinsville. It was another close game, but again the Vikings came out on top.

Again it was the Devils that took the early lead as they put two runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Treutlen answered in the top of the third with two runs to tie the game at 2-2, and then added three more in the top of the fifth inning to jump out to a 5-2 lead.

Hawkinsville scored one in the sixth inning, but the Vikings plated one in the seventh as they led 6-3 heading to the bottom of the final inning. The Devils did manage to get one run across, but it was not enough as Treutlen got the win, 6-4.

Hughes and Trace Peeples each had two RBI's in the game. Hughes got the win on the mound.

Game 3

In the final game the Vikings were in control of this one from the third inning on. In the third they scored two runs to go ahead, and then added one more in the fifth to lead 3-0. Treutlen added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, and in the bottom of the frame they held the Devils to just one as the Vikings won the game 4-1. Peeples and Tim Blair each had 2 RBI's in the game, and Peeples was the winning pitcher. This week Treutlen has a Region series with Johnson County. Johnson comes into the series a perfect 15-0 on the year. Treutlen played on Tuesday after presstime and will play a double header on Friday at home with the first game at 4:00 p.m.
