Uvalda Man Killed When Tree Falls

A Uvalda man was killed December 29 when a large tree fell on him at 138 Benton Powell Road near Benton Lee’s Steakhouse in rural Toombs County. Toombs County Sheriff Alvie Kight reported Monday that Lloyd Mitchell Cook, 55, of 229 Lewis Cook Road, was sitting near the tree when it fell. Another man, Joshua Cody Holt, sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The Sheriff’s Office received the call at 2:40 p.m. Apparently Cook was killed instantly. “The trunk of the tree fell on him and he didn’t have a chance,” Kight said.

Brewton-Parker College has announced the 2020 Fall Semester Dean’s List. These students were enrolled in 12 or more hours and earned a grade point average of 3.6 or better.
