Gatewood Defeats RTCA

The Crusaders of Robert Toombs Christian Academy played in the first round of the GISA State AA Playoffs last Friday night against the Gators of Gatewood Academy in Eatonton. It was a tough finish to the season as RTCA lost the game 45-0 to the two-time defending AA State Champions.

RTCA did move the ball a bit with the help of a couple of penalties on Gatewood, but they ended up turning the ball over on downs at the 36-yard line. Gatewood then mounted a drive and found the end zone on a 3-yard run with 6:18 left in the first quarter. The extra point was good to make it a 7-0 lead. RTCA had to punt the ball on their next possession and punted the ball away. The Gators returned the kick for a touchdown, but it was called back on a penalty and they started at their 45yard line. The Gators took the ball down the field and put their second touchdown of the night on the board to make it 14-0. The Crusaders were pinned deep after the ensuing kickoff, and just a couple of plays later they threw an interception that was taken by the Gators at the RTCA 19-yard line. Gatewood went in from 15-yards out a few plays later to go ahead 21-0 with just over a minute to go in the first quarter.

Gatewood added another touchdown early in the second quarter as they went up 28-0 on the Crusaders. The Gators then got a safety on RTCA to make the score 30-0.

In the second quarter Clayton Meadows hit Hunter Ennis over the middle for a 37-yard touchdown, but the play was called back on a penalty. RTCA ended up turning the ball over on downs which led to a 34-yard run by Gatewood that made it 38-0 with 3:50 left in the half.

In the third quarter Gatewood made it 45-0 with 8:30 left in the third quarter. That was the final score of the game for either team as RTCA fell 45-0.

RTCA ended the season with a record of 1-9. Gatewood moves on to the second round of the playoffs and is 10-1 on the year.
