Eagles Stung By Hornets

The Montgomery County High School Eagles football team traveled to take on the Pelham High Hornets in the first round of the GHSA State A Playoffs last Friday night. It was a tough game for the Eagles as they were up against the #1 team out of Region 1.

Pelham took the early lead with a touchdown early in the first quarter. They added the extra point to go ahead 7-0 on the Eagles. The Hornets added a rushing touchdown with less than a minute left in the first. They missed the extra point, but were on top 13-0.

In the second quarter Pelham was driving again, but MCHS came up with an interception to stop the drive at the MCHS 15-yard line.

The Eagles closed the lead to 13-6 with under two minutes left in the first half of the game as they hit a long pass for 81 yards from Bo Davidson to Xavier Brantley deep into the Hornets' territory to set up the score. Davidson then found Brantley for the touchdown just a few plays later. They missed the extra point.

The Eagles kept it close as they recovered a Hornet fumble with less than a minute to go in the half. Heading to the locker rooms MCHS was down 13-6. The Eagles had the ball to start the second half, but the offense stalled and they had to punt the ball away. Pelham took it and marched down the field and scored on a passing play with under six minutes on the clock. They added the PAT and were on top 20-6.

MCHS again had to punt the ball on their next possession and Pelham again went down and found the end zone, this time with just under a minute left in the third quarter. With the extra point the Hornets were up 27-6.

Early in the fourth Pelham scored again as they pushed their lead to 34-6 and added one more touchdown with five minutes left in the game to lead 41-6. The Eagles got a late touchdown on a run by Kristian Boyer, but MCHS fell 41-12 to the Hornets. The loss ended the season for MCHS with a record of 6-5.
