Area Schools Update COVID-19 Status
On Friday, September 4, area schools issued weekly COVID-19 updates. At Vidalia City Schools, of the 2,509 students enrolled, there are five current positive COVID cases and 70 students are quarantined. Of the 335 employees in the system, there are 3 current positive COVID cases and 3 employees quarantined. The percentage of students and employees with positive COVID- 19 status is 0.3% and the percentage of students and employees quarantined for COVID-19 exposure is 2.5%. At Toombs County Schools, of the 2,886 students enrolled (with 2,522 in traditional face-to-face instruction), 11 or .04% are COVID positive. Of the 401 employees, 6 or 1.49% are COVID positive and 8 are quarantined. In the Montgomery County Schools, no teachers are COVID positive and none are currently quarantined. Two students are COVID positive and 22 students and one staff member are quarantined. Four students were due to return to school on Tuesday, September 8, and 15 additional students were expected to return on Wednesday, September 9.
At Wheeler County Schools, out of 928 students and 153 employees, there were no students or teachers with positive COVID status; one student had been quarantined for possible exposure (as reported by a parent on August 31); and 1 staff member had been quarantined for possible exposure. The Wheeler County Schools paused in-class instruction on August 17 and implemented home study due to a number of COVID cases but resumed classes August 31.
All area school systems are posting COVID updates on their websites and will continue to do so throughout the COVID pandemic.
