Mr. Eugene Stewart

Mr. Eugene “Gene” C. Stewart, age 84 of Ailey, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at Community Hospice in Vidalia. Mr. Stewart was a native and longtime resident of Treutlen County. He served in the United States Navy. Upon being discharged he came home and worked as a mail carrier in Treutlen County for a short time before reenlisting for a second tour of duty. At the time of his second honorable discharge, he worked with Seaboard Coastline until joining GA Power, where he worked as an Instrument Control Technician at Plant Hatch, until retiring in 2003. He was a lifelong member of Zaidee Advent Christian Church and was an ordained Advent Christian minister. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvard and Bertha Hutcheson Stewart; former wives, Sylvia West Stewart and Jane Warnock Stewart; 1 son, Brian Stewart; 2 sisters, Billie Knight and Sarah Cross; and 2 nephews, Frankie Hutcheson and Randy Cross.

Survivors include 1 sister, Frances Stewart Hutcheson (Frank), Savannah; 1 former wife, Christine Sumner; 2 stepsons, Lance Link and Clint Jones; 4 nieces, Pam De-Leves (Paul), Savannah, Patty Cross, Savannah, Kim Cleek (Bill), Guyton, and Fran Jones, Savannah; 1 nephew, Freddie Hutcheson, Savannah; 5 great-nieces, Gentry, Christy, Halie and Lucy Hutcheson and Shana Coleman; 1 great-nephew, Hank Hutcheson; and 4 great-greatnephews.

Private burial will take place in the Hutcheson Cemetery in Treutlen County.
