Toombs County High School Teacher and Coach Jeremy Moore was recently recognized as the Greater Vidalia Chamber Super Star Teacher for the month of October.
The Super Star Teacher award is an initiative the Chamber began in 2024 to honor the extraordinary teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty, and ultimately, impact lives. The program is overseen by Chamber Director of Operations Amber O’Connor, who spoke on the opportunity.
“The Chamber is excited to be able to offer this program to our community! We couldn’t think of a more deserving group of professionals in our workplace to be recognized for their dedication to students and their community,” she remarked. “A Super Star Teacher demonstrates excellence in leadership in their classroom along with motivation for their students. They show a high level of commitment to not only their students but their community.”
The Chamber collects nominations for the award every month, then nominations are reviewed by monthly sponsors to select a winner, who is presented with the award and prizes during the school day.
On October 22, Greater Vidalia Chamber members and program sponsors surprised Moore with the award and a gift as a thank you for his excellence inside and outside of the classroom. During the presentation, presenters read out the nomination that earned Moore the award. The nomination read: “Coach Moore goes above and beyond for his students in the classroom and also for his athletes on the field and course. Coach Moore coaches almost year-round with the Soccer teams and Cross-Country teams. There are just a few weeks out of the year when one of his teams is not practicing or competing.
Recently, one of his student athletes was in an extremely difficult situation, while being forced out of our country. Coach Moore spent countless hours working on ways to help this young man in any way that he could. Coach Moore went to his home to meet with his family and spoke with immigration attorneys.
Coach Moore was the adult outside of his family that this young man trusted, he reached out to Coach Moore from the detention center, and Coach Moore provided many updates from what he was learning from his family, the attorneys and people in our community that were assisting in making a path for this young man to be safe when he would arrive in his country or origin.
After all resources were exhausted, this young man did have to return to his home country. This week, the young man texted Coach Moore to let him know that he made it to his family and is safe. He thanked Coach Moore for all that he has done for him. Not only did Coach Moore make a significant impact in this young man's life today, but for tomorrow and days to come, he knows that he is loved, valued, and supported. That is what educators are placed in their roles to do, to support, encourage & uplift the young people who they come in contact with.
Coach Moore shows up for his special education students, individualized education plan caseload students and for his student athletes day after day. Coach Moore is so deserving of the Star Teacher Award.”
Nominations for the November Super Star Teacher award have closed, but nominations for the December Super Star Teacher will be accepted until November 24.
