Bulldogs Squeak by Swainsboro, Take Down Camden County
The Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team played two close games last week as they squeaked by Swainsboro on Tuesday and then pulled out a win over Camden County on Wednesday. That improves their overall record to 4-4, and they are 1-1 in Region play.

Offense was hard to come by Tuesday, but the Toombs County Bulldogs did just enough to slip past Swainsboro, 2-1.
Taylor Bland was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game for the Bulldogs. The right-hander allowed just 2 hits and 1 unearned run while striking out 9 and walking 1.
Toombs County scratched across its first run in the third inning to take the early lead. They added another run on an RBI hit by Bland in the fifth inning to go ahead, 2- 0.
Swainsboro closed the lead to 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning, but that was all they could get as Toombs took the win, 2- 1 Leighton Williams, Cyleigh Ennis, Elly Haygood, and Kylah Gay each tallied a hit for the Bulldogs, while Williams led the way on the base paths with 2 steals. Toombs finished with four stolen bases on the night.
“This was a tough, hard-fought win,” Toombs County Head Coach Hayne Brant said. “Taylor set the tone in the circle, and our girls found a way to battle and make plays when it counted.” vs. Camden Co.
The Toombs County Bulldogs were triumphant over the Camden County Wildcats 5-4 on Wednesday.
Toombs County opened the scoring in the first after Sage White singled, scoring 2 runs. Camden took the lead in the bottom of the first inning with 2 RBI singles and a run scored on a fielder's choice. That gave the Wildcats a 3-2 lead over Toombs.
In the top of the third inning, Toombs went back into the lead after Sage White singled to center field to bring in a run, and then an error on Camden allowed another run to come in to score. That put TCHS back on top, 4-3.
A sacrifice fly by the Wildcats in the bottom of the third inning tied the game at 4-4. Toombs rallied in the top of the fourth and took the lead as Taylor Bland hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, to give TCHS the lead, 5- 4.
The Bulldogs held over the next three innings to take the win by that score.
Taylor Bland earned the win for TCHS. The righty allowed 1 hit and zero runs over 4 innings, striking out 4 and walking 1.
This week Toombs faces Johnson County on the road in Wrightsville on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
