VHA Falls In High Scoring Game

The Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles opened their 2025 football season with a wild, highscoring affair against the Sherwood Christian Academy Eagles, ultimately falling 79-39 in a game that was delayed for hours by a lightning storm.

The game, which kicked off just after 7:30 PM, started with a quick passing touchdown by Sherwood Christian that gave them an early 6-0 lead. But just as the game was getting underway, a weather delay halted play for nearly three hours, pushing the restart to after 10:00 p.m.

Once play resumed, Vidalia Heritage Academy (VHA) wasted no time getting on the board. Quarterback Jake Adams took matters into his own hands, rushing for a touchdown and then punching in the twopoint conversion to give the Eagles an 8-6 lead. The first quarter ended with Sherwood Christian regaining the lead with another passing touchdown, making the score

12- 8. The offensive fireworks continued into the second quarter. Sherwood found the end zone with a rushing touchdown, extending their lead to 18-8. Not to be outdone, VHA answered back with an impressive passing play, as Adams connected with Dylan Green for a touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the score at 18-14. Sherwood went on to score twice more before halftime, taking a 33-14 lead into the break.

The third quarter saw a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading touchdowns. Sherwood Christian scored first with a passing TD. Then, Adams found Pearson O’Neal for a VHA touchdown. The Eagles failed the two-point conversion, making the score 39-20. Sherwood Christian tacked on another passing touchdown before the quarter's end, pushing their lead to 4520.

The fourth quarter was a whirlwind of offensive plays. Vidalia Heritage Academy showed heart and resilience, with Adams throwing two more touchdowns. He connected with Wayne Richardson and then found O'Neal again. Adams also connected with Green a second time late in the game for another touchdown.

Despite the Eagles' best efforts, Sherwood Christian's offense proved too much to handle. They continued to pour on the points, scoring four touchdowns in the final quarter to seal the victory.

While the loss is a tough pill to swallow, the Eagles showed flashes of brilliance on offense, particularly in the passing game. Adams had an outstanding performance, throwing for five touchdowns to go along with his rushing touchdown. The connections with Green, O'Neal, and Richardson will be a bright spot for the team to build on as they prepare for their next opponent.

The Eagles will look to regroup and learn from this high-scoring season opener as they will host Georgia Christian this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
