Indians Sit At Top Of Region


The Vidalia High School Lady Indians softball team played two games last week. They took a win over Wheeler County, but lost to Emanuel County Institute. VHS is now 15-12 on the season, but they are 6-1 in Region play heading into this final week of the regular season. The Indians are hanging onto a 1 game lead over Toombs County for the Region lead. vs. Wheeler
Tori Polke struck out 10 batters as the hurler led the Vidalia Indians softball team past Wheeler County 7-3 on Wednesday. Polke gave up 5 hits and 4 runs over 8 innings while walking 3.
The Indians scored first when Polke tripled to drive in Elizabeth Sowell in the top of the third inning. Wheeler County tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth, and neither team scored in the seventh to push the game to extra innings.
But in the top of the eighth inning the Indians broke the game open as they plated 6 runs to take a 7-1 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by CK Hamilton that drove in two runs. Wheeler put up a fight and were able to get 2 runs across in the bottom of the eighth inning, but VHS held on to take the win, 7-3.
Hamilton led the Indians with 2 runs batted in. The left fielder went 2-for-2 on the day and added 2 walks. Deidra Boston, Paisley Ledford, and Aubrey Jones also had hits. vs. ECI
The Indians took the early lead off a solo home run by Elizabeth Sowell in the top of the first inning. VHS added to that lead with a run in the top of the fourth, but ECI tied the game in the bottom of the frame at 2-2.
The Lady Bulldogs then took the lead in the sixth inning with 4 more runs as they took the 6-2 win over Vidalia.
This week VHS hosted Jeff Davis on Monday and were at Savannah Christian on Tuesday for a Region game, both after presstime. They will wrap up the regular season at Swainsboro for a Region matchup on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
