A Toombs County High School Senior has been selected to serve on the 2022-2023 Student Advisory Council for the Georgia Department of Education. Brantley Grace Smith was one of 67 students selected from hundreds of applicants from across the state to serve on this Council. Which will advise Georgia State Superintendent of Schools Richard Woods on the effects of state level decisions on current students. She will also serve as one of Superintendent Woods’ student ambassadors to her school and area, as well as participate in several service projects with the group. “I’m excited to represent Toombs County High School and students across the state of Georgia as I serve on the Student Advisory Council,” Smith commented. “I’m also excited for my first meeting with Superintendent Woods, as we discuss ways to improve education.”

TCHS Principal Marissa Morris also shared her thoughts on the honor. “We are honored to have Brantley Grace represent Toombs County High School on the Student Advisory Council. She is 1 of 67 students from across the state selected for this honor. We are looking forward to hearing more from Brantley Grace throughout the school year as she works with other student advisory members to further enhance educational opportunities in Georgia’s classrooms. This is quite an accomplishment!” she remarked.

Smith will attend her first meeting with the group on November 15 at the Georgia Department of Education in Atlanta, and will continue to have three other official meetings throughout the year.
