Indians Run At S. Effingham

Saturday was not exactly track meet weather, with the cold temperatures and excessive wind but the Vidalia High School Lady Indians and Indians managed to bring home the win in the Indian Invitational on Saturday, March 12. The boys won the team championship with 139 points to South Effingham’s 124 points. The Lady Indians won with 116 points to South Effingham's 102 points.

Boys

Standout performers for the boys were freshman Joshtin Troupe in the 100m placing 2nd with a .50 personal best time. Freshman Keldon Simms competed in the 200m for the first time earned a 2nd place finish as well. Andrew Hodges won the 800m and placed 2nd in the 1,600. Luke Palmer placed 2nd in the 3,200. Hodges and Palmer combined efforts with Jamarion Smith and Hunter Loosberg to win the 4×800 Relay. Hurdlers had impressive performances as well with Jahlyn Madison winning the 110m hurdles and Nahvie Berry finishing 2nd. Madison placed 2nd in the 300mh. Jamari Jermon placed 2nd in the triple jump with a personal best jump of 40’7” and placed 3rd in the long jump. Jordan Powell placed 2nd in the high jump then teamed up with Jahlym Madison, AJ McClendon and Joshtin Troupe to win the 4×100 relay. The 4×200 relay finished 2nd with Jordan Powell, Jahlyn Madison, Aj McClendon and Keldon Simms, while the 4×400 relay placed 2nd as well with Deante Terell, Dylan Skeete-Franklin Omarion Oglesby and Andrew Hodges.

Girls

The Lady Indians were led by Sarah Owen as she won the 1,600m and joined forces with Kaitlyn Allen, Kyleigh Johnson and Aidyn Driggers to win the 4×400 Relay. Samara Troupe placed 2nd in the 100m, first in long jump and was a part of the winning 4×200 Relay with Kyleigh Johnson, Moriah Wardlaw and Dashia Ford.

Kaitlyn Allen placed 2nd in the 800m while Tymber Harris put in a personal best in the high jump placing 2nd. Hurdler Kyleigh Johnson placed 2nd in the 100m hurdles and won the 300m hurdles while freshman Daśhia Ford placed 3rd in the 100m hurdles and 2nd in the 300m hurdles.

VHS throwers Diamond Cook won the Discus and placed 2nd in the Shot Put as Freshman Shayla Bennett won the shot put and placed 2nd in the discus. Addy Reid placed 3rd in the shot put in her first track and field competition.

Head Coach Mandy Godbee said, “As a coach, I am proud to see the grit, toughness, and determination of these young athletes. Not many athletes can endure conditions that they did throughout this meet, but when you train and prepare as they have, they want to compete and improve every day. Competing in various conditions makes them better and stronger, they will be able to overcome whatever is thrown at them in the future. Their hunger for competition speaks volumes as to why they had a successful meet.”

Both teams will hit the road Saturday, March 19 to compete in WACO Relays in Sandersville, GA.
