During the July 19 meeting of the Montgomery County Board of Education, the Board heard updates about the district’s preparations for the upcoming school year, accepted a few personnel recommendations, and approved the annual contract with the Coastal Plains High School charter school.
Superintendent Ronda Hightower informed the Board that the district’s first ever Principal’s Retreat had been a success, as the principals of Montgomery County Elementary, Middle, and High Schools came together to strategize, plan, and come together on ideas to help the students at each school.
Hightower also told the Board that the district plans to decrease its technology usage in each school, as students will be limited to 20 minutes per class to utilize chromebooks and other technology.
As of Monday, Montgomery County High School students should have received their class schedules for the next semester. Montgomery County High School Principal Tracy McNeal has filmed videos with instructions on how to access those schedules and how to request schedule changes from the counselor; these videos are available on the Montgomery County Schools Facebook page.
Personnel
The Board approved several personnel changes, including the resignation of Bus Monitor Timothy Scott and the hiring of Amelia Lane as a part-time (48%) instructional coach at Montgomery County High School.
The Board also shared that they had completed the evaluation of Superintendent Hightower, and she was meeting all of the Board’s expectations. Board members voted to terminate Hightower’s current contract, and authorized a new contract, which will last until June 30, 2028, to be signed.
Other Actions
Montgomery County Schools Financial Director Mylinda Moore informed the Board that she was awaiting the results of the annual audit, but believed that there would be no issues.
The Board agreed to re-enter into a contract with Coastal Plains Charter High School to allow some students to attend the schooling option. This new contract does not differ from the previous years’ contracts in cost or guidelines.
The second reading of the DIB: Financial Reports policy revision was complete, as the Board accepted the policy change, which adds one sentence that is now required by the Georgia Department of Education to be included in the policy.
