VHS Boys Capture Westminster Relays Title; Girls Fall Just Short in Thrilling Finish

The Vidalia High School track and field teams turned in an exceptional performance at the Westminster Relays, with the boys team capturing the championship and the girls finishing a heartbreaking half-point shy of the title.

Boys

The Vidalia boys dominated the meet, racking up 119 points to outpace Darlington (70) and host Westminster (67). Their victory was fueled by standout performances across multiple continued from page

events, particularly in the sprints, relays, and field events.

Leading the charge was Jaydyn Young, who delivered one of the most impressive performances of the meet. Young broke his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a blazing 14.07 to claim victory and continue his remarkable season.

The boys' sprint relay teams also made a powerful statement. The 4x100meter relay team of Tyler McKinney, Ja'Marre Wiggs, Jamarion Lanier, and Jaydyn Young turned in a dominant performance, winning the event in 41.87. The 4×200-meter relay team followed suit, taking first place behind the efforts of Jamarion Lanier, Ja'Marre Wiggs, Alton Boles, and Tyler McKinney.

In the field events, CJ Monroe had a standout day, winning the shot put and finishing second in the discus with an impressive personal-best throw of 153 feet, 1 inch. Meanwhile, the boys 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams added valuable points with strong performances, showcasing the team’s depth and endurance.

Girls

On the girls' side, the Lady Indians battled fiercely in a tight team race, finishing with 94.5 points—just half a point behind Harris County (95), while Westminster placed third with 67 points.

Despite the narrow loss, the Vidalia girls had a historic day. The relay teams stole the spotlight, setting two new school records. The 4×100-meter relay team of Kayden Love, Ze Rollins, Dreshiyah Jackson, and J’Miyah Hunt sprinted to a record-breaking time of 48.46. The same quartet followed up with another record in the 4×200-meter relay, posting a time of 2:45.01.

Deidra Boston delivered a strong performance in the field, winning the shot put, while Takaiyah Bacon contributed key points with runner-up finishes in both the long jump and triple jump.

With a team championship for the boys and a near-title performance for the girls, Vidalia High School showcased its talent, depth, and determination against top-tier competition. As the season progresses, both teams continue to establish themselves as serious contenders heading into championship meets.
