The J.R. Trippe Middle School Chiefs are Region Champions. After a dominant shutout over rival Toombs County earlier in the week, the Chiefs showed their grit on Thursday, erasing an early five-run deficit to defeat the Metter Tigers 11-7 and claim the title. vs. Toombs Co.

Trippe set the tone for their championship run on Tuesday with a decisive 10-0 blanking of the Toombs County Bullpups. Cole Scott was in absolute command on the mound, turning in a shutout performance to keep the rival offense entirely at bay.

The game remained a scoreless stalemate until the bottom of the third inning when the Chiefs' offense finally broke through for four runs. Brayden Williams sparked the rally by lacing an RBI double, which was quickly followed by a costly Toombs County error that brought home two more runs. Ethan Holmes then drove in another to comfortably put Trippe on top, 4-0.

The Chiefs put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, hanging six more runs on the board behind a string of RBI hits from Williams, Kam Bacon, and Holmes to seal the 10-0 win. vs. Metter Championship Game The Championship matchup against Metter on Thursday, however, tested Trippe’s resolve. The Tigers pounced early, plating five runs in the top of the first inning to put the Chiefs back on their heels. Trippe managed to answer with two runs in the bottom half of the frame, but the Tigers responded with a pair of their own in the second inning to stretch their advantage to 7-2.

Facing a significant deficit, the Chiefs simply dug in. They chipped away with a single run in the bottom of the second, setting the stage for a massive fifth inning. Trailing 7-3, Trippe loaded the bases and kept the pressure on the Tigers' defense. A combination of disciplined at-bats resulting in walks and several critical errors by Metter led to a massive five-run surge. The breakout inning completely flipped the game, giving the Chiefs their first lead of the afternoon at 8-7.

Carrying all the momentum, Trippe's lineup went right back to work in the sixth, pushing across three crucial insurance runs to widen the gap. The pitching and defense held firm from there, securing the 11-7 victory and ensuring the region trophy would reside in Vidalia. The title victory served as the final capstone to a perfect season, as the Chiefs finished with an incredible 16-0 record.
