Earth Day Recycling Event Accepting Unwanted Electronics on April 22

Individuals in the region with unwanted electronics can safely recycle these items during an Earth Day Electronic Recycling Event from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22.

This year’s event is sponsored by Smith’s Roll Offs and the Lyons Lions Club, and will work to recycle electronic items in an environmentally friendly manner in honor of the Earth Day holiday.

Accepted items are answering machines, laptops, automotive electronics, lead acid batteries, boom boxes, main frames, cables and wiring, computer mice, calculators, pagers, network cabling, cd and dvd players, paper shredders, cell phones, personal computers (PCs), chargers, printers, copiers, radios, cordless phones, receivers, digital cameras, record players, digital thermostats, network switches, routers, lithium-ion batteries, dry cell batteries (nonalkaline), scanners, electric typewriters, servers, circuit boards, electronic scrap parts, server racks, speakers, electronic toys, surge protectors, external hard drives, tape players (audio and video), fax machines, telephone sets, flat screen monitors/LCD, GPS units, timers, small digital kitchen appliances, transformers, iPods and other MP3 players, turn tables, keyboards, video game systems, hubs, walkie talkies, tablets, photocopies, flat screen TVs, chromebooks, and computer carts.

Most items will be accepted without a charge, except for flat screen TVs — $15 each – and printers — $5-$20 each based on size. Individuals may also have their hard drives destroyed and receive an official hard drive destruction certificate for $5 each. All payments must be made in cash.

Cathode ray tube (CRT) devices and large console TVs will not be accepted.

This event will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, at the Lyons Train Depot Parking Lot, located at 254 W. Liberty Street.
