Indians Soccer Gets Road Wins
The Vidalia High School Indians soccer teams hit the road for a pair of matchups this past week. The Lady Indians traveled to Savannah on Tuesday to face St. Vincent's Academy, and both the boys' and girls' squads headed to Swainsboro on Friday to take on the Tigers.
Girls vs. St. Vincent's
The week began with a tough test for the Lady Indians against a formidable St. Vincent's squad. The Saints dictated the pace from the opening whistle, controlling the game early on to hand Vidalia an 8-0 loss.
Girls vs. Swainsboro
However, the Lady Indians quickly bounced back during Friday's contest against Swainsboro. Vidalia's offense found its rhythm in the first half, netting two goals while the defense limited the Lady Tigers to just one, allowing VHS to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. The Lady Indians kept the pressure on in the second half, adding an insurance goal to secure a 3-1 victory.
Boys vs. Swainsboro
On the boys' side, Friday's matchup against Swainsboro was a tight, defensive battle. The Indians managed to break through the Tigers' defense for a single goal in the first half. That was all the offense Vidalia needed, as the defense did its job and completely shut down Swainsboro for the rest of the night to seal a hard-fought 1-0 win.
With these latest matchups in the books, the Lady Indians sit at 7-3 on the season and 1-2 in Region play. The boys' team currently holds a 5-4 overall record and is 1-1 in the Region. Both teams hosted Woodville-Tompkins on Monday after presstime. The Indians will return to action this Friday on the road against Coffee County, with games slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
