Lyons Primary School Teacher Heather Kight was recently celebrated for her excellence in the classroom, as she received the February Greater Vidalia Chamber Super Star Teacher Award.
The Super Star Teacher award is an initiative the Chamber began in 2024 to honor the extraordinary teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty, and ultimately, impact lives. The program is overseen by Chamber Director of Operations Amber O’Connor, who spoke on the opportunity.
“The Chamber is excited to be able to offer this program to our community! We couldn’t think of a more deserving group of professionals in our workplace to be recognized for their dedication to students and their community,” she remarked. “A Super Star Teacher demonstrates excellence in leadership in their classroom along with motivation for their students. They show a high level of commitment to not only their students but their community.”
The Chamber collects nominations for the award every month, then nominations are reviewed by monthly sponsors to select a winner, who is presented with the award and prizes during the school day.
Recently, Greater Vidalia Chamber representatives, program sponsors, Lyons Primary School administrators, and fellow educators surprised Kight with the award.
Kight was selected for the award by a panel, who after reviewing her nomination, felt that she was most worthy of the honor. The anonymous nomination for Kight stated, “Heather Kight is a Super Star Teacher because she truly represents the heart of education. She is passionate about teaching and consistently goes above and beyond for her students. She nurtures, loves, protects, and guides each child, creating a classroom environment where students feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn. She builds strong relationships with students and families and always puts children's needs first. In addition, she is patient, compassionate, and highly dedicated. Mrs. Kight is a teacher leader and collaborates well with colleagues, maintains high expectations, and models professionalism at all times. Her classroom is structured, engaging, and filled with encouragement and positivity. She is an advocate for students, a problem-solver, and a dependable team member who can always be counted on. Her commitment, work ethic, and genuine care make a lasting impact on her students and school community. She exemplifies everything a Super Star Teacher should be and is truly deserving of this recognition.”
This nomination was shared during the award presentation, as presenters celebrated Kight for her work.
Nominations for the March Super Star Teacher award have closed. The recipient of the award will be shared in coming weeks.
