Rough Week For Lady Barons

The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team faced off with Tennessee Southern and Blue Mountain last week. vs. Tenn Southern
The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team traveled to Pulaski, Tenn., to take on the University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks in a doubleheader on March 20, 2026. The Barons struggled at the plate, getting shut out in game one, 8-0 and dropping game two 7-2.
Game 1
Brewton-Parker threatened early in game one when Tori Wright opened the day with a single and later stole second, but Tennessee Southern starter Stella Gilbreath worked out of the frame and settled in. The Firehawks finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth, using an RBI single to start the scoring before a three-run shot to left field made it 4-0. Another run came across later in the inning on a fielder’s choice sequence to complete the fiverun frame. The Firehawks added two more in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to run-rule the Barons in game one.
Game 2
Game two saw the Firehawks jump all over the Barons early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the second. The Barons answered with an RBI single from Madisyn Hallar and another RBI single from Maeleigh Burns to cut the lead to 4-2. Unfortunately, the Barons were unable to keep the Firehawks off the scoreboard as they tallied another run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings while shutting down the Barons’ offense and taking game two. vs. Blue Mountain
The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team traveled to Blue Mountain, Mississippi, to play the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University in a SSAC doubleheader. The Barons battled in both games but fell short, dropping game one 7-5 and game two 4-3.
Game 1
In the opener, Brewton-Parker built early pressure but could not overcome a five-run second inning. The Barons struck first in the top of the first when Tori Wright drew a walk, stole second, and later scored on a wild pitch to give Brewton-Parker a 1-0 lead. The Toppers responded with a decisive frame in the bottom of the second, pushing across five runs.
Brewton-Parker answered immediately in the third. Morgan Willingham singled to center for an RBI as part of a two-run inning that trimmed the margin to 5-3 and kept the Barons within striking distance. After the Toppers added a run in the fourth on an RBI single up the middle, Brewton-Parker mounted another push in the sixth. Wright reached on a fielder’s choice that brought home a run and pulled the Barons within 6-5, capping a tworun frame that again made it a one-run game. The Toppers manufactured a key insurance run in the bottom of the sixth that held the rest of the way.
Game 2
Game two followed a similar script, with the Barons taking control in the middle innings before Blue Mountain rallied late to earn a 4-3 walk-off victory. The Toppers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly, but the Barons answered in the second when Madisyn Hallar singled home the tying run to make it 1-1. Brewton- Parker moved in front in the third as Willingham continued her productive day, singling to center to give the Barons a 2-1 advantage.
Brewton-Parker extended its lead to 3-1 in the fifth, again behind Willingham, who singled to right field for her second RBI of the game and fourth of the doubleheader. Blue Mountain immediately began its comeback in the bottom half, cutting the deficit to 3-2 on an RBI single. In the sixth, the Toppers pulled even, scoring on a wild pitch, setting up a decisive seventh inning. The Toppers walked it off in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to take the second game of the day.
The Barons will look to bounce back on March 28, 2026, when they host the Fillies of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in a SSAC conference doubleheader.
