Busy Week For RTCA Crusaders

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders basketball teams had an action-packed week, facing off against First Preparatory Christian Academy, Edmund Burke Academy, and Memorial Day. While the week began with a tough road loss for the boys, the Crusaders rebounded with strong performances later in the week, including a sweep of the Memorial Day Matadors.

Boys vs. FPCA On Tuesday, the boys traveled to face the Highlanders of First Preparatory Christian Academy. The Highlanders established control early, jumping out to a 22-11 lead by the end of the first period. FPCA extended their advantage to 43-26 at halftime and led 61-45 entering the final quarter. despite the deficit, Drew Edwards led the Crusaders' offense with 25 points, while Anthony Cook contributed 12 points. ultimately, the Highlanders secured the victory with a final score of 85-59. vs. Edmund Burke

The Crusaders returned home on Friday to host the Edmund Burke Academy Spartans. The Lady Crusaders fought a hard battle against the Lady Spartans but came up short, falling 66-55. The boys’ team fared better against EBA, establishing a 19-13 lead in the first quarter and widening the gap to 34-23 by halftime. RTCA maintained control in the second half, leading 46-33 after the third quarter and closing out the game with a 62-45 victory. vs. Memorial

The teams concluded their week against the Matadors of Memorial Day. The Lady Crusaders secured a thrilling victory in a defensive battle, edging out the Lady Matadors with a final score of 39-37. In the boys' matchup, Drew Edwards delivered another standout performance, scoring 29 points to propel RTCA past the Matadors. The Crusaders led 15-7 after the first quarter and held a 29-18 advantage at the half. Although Memorial made a run in the fourth quarter, RTCA had built enough of a cushion with a 42-27 lead through three quarters to secure the 50-44 win.

The Lady Crusaders are now 13-8 on the year and they are 1-2 in the Region, while the boys are 14-7 and are 3-1 in the Region. They will wrap up the regular season this week. The Crusaders faced off with Citizens Christian on Tuesday after presstime, which closed out the girls season, and the boys will play FPCA on Friday at home at 6:30 p.m.
