The Toombs County High School basketball teams faced a grueling three-game stretch last week, hosting Dublin, arch-rival Vidalia, and Montgomery County. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs split with the Irish, dropped a pair to Vidalia, but bounced back to sweep Montgomery County. vs. Dublin

The Lady Bulldogs opened the week with a hard-fought 64-59 loss to Dublin. Toombs County battled back from an early deficit to take a 35-31 lead into halftime, fueled by perimeter shooting from Taylor Bland and aggressive play from Emerson Powell.

The game remained tight throughout the second half. Toombs trailed 48-44 entering the fourth quarter but stayed within striking distance thanks to baskets from Arianna Hill and Makenna Gardisser. However, Dublin’s Khalil Maddox and Jordan Renfroe converted crucial free throws and baskets down the stretch to secure the win for the Irish.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs secured a 56-47 victory. Parker Stanley paced the offense with 19 points. Toombs controlled the tempo early, leading 12-10 after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 2719 at the break. They maintained a doubledigit cushion for much of the second half, taking a 42-30 lead into the final period and closing out the win. vs. Vidalia

The atmosphere was electric as the Bulldogs hosted rival Vidalia, but the night belonged to the Indians.

The Lady Bulldogs struggled to find an offensive rhythm in a 6732 loss. Vidalia exploded out of the gate, building an insurmountable 3413 lead by the end of the first quarter. Toombs could not chip away at the deficit, as the Lady Indians controlled the boards and the tempo. Emerson Powell provided some offense in the fourth quarter, but the gap was too wide to overcome.

The boys’ game was a defensive struggle, with Vidalia taking a 51-39 victory. The Indians led 20-12 after one and 3727 at the half. Toombs County clamped down defensively in the third quarter, holding Vidalia to just 7 points and cutting the lead to 44-37. However, the offense stalled in the fourth, managing just 2 points as Vidalia pulled away late to win, 51-39. vs. Montgomery County Both teams rebounded nicely on Saturday to sweep Montgomery County.

The Lady Bulldogs dominated from tip-off, rolling to a decisive 5327 victory over the Lady Eagles to get back in the win column.

The Bulldogs capped the week with a thrilling comeback, defeating Montgomery County 61-47. The Eagles led 12-9 early and held a 2319 advantage at halftime. Toombs came out firing in the third quarter, erasing the deficit to take a 38-33 lead. Parker Stanley continued his hot streak, dropping 21 points to lead the charge as the Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 4-12 on the season and they are 0-5 in the Region. The boys are 12-6 overall and they are 1-3 in the Region. This week Toombs hosted Savannah Christian on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at Savannah Country Day at 6:00 p.m., and then they will be at Dublin on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
