Local Libraries Host Fun For All Ages in January

The public libraries in Montgomery, Toombs, Treutlen, and Wheeler Counties have announced numerous programs and activities for patrons to begin their new year with excitement and fun.
In Montgomery County, the library will take a break from its regular weekly Story Time, but will host several craft times and club meetings to make up for the absence.
Adults are invited to relax and fellowship at the Coffee and Coloring event, which will be held every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. These events are scheduled for January 14, January 21, and January 28.
The Lego Club will meet each Wednesday – January 14, January 21, and January 28 – from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. as kids are invited to build new creations and make friends.
Patrons will have the ability to create an “I Have A Dream” craft from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. during Crafternoon on Wednesday, January 14. This craft will honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Children will be able to make paper laterns at the free Kids Craft Club at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 15.
The library will be closed for Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 19.
Patrons can paint a cardinal at the Cookies and Canvas event at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20.
The new Photography Club will meet to show off their pictures and share tips from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 22.
The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) activity of the month will center around the winter season, as it is themed “Do You Want to Build A Snowman?” and will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27.
On Wednesday, January 28, patrons can salt paint snowflakes during the Crafternoon event from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The kids Pokemon Club will meet in the main section of the library while the Magic: the Gathering (MTG) Club meets in the meeting room of the library on Saturday, January 31. These events will both begin at 11 a.m.
The library is located at 215 S. Railroad Avenue in Mount Vernon and is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday. The library is closed on Friday and Sunday. For more information, call (912) 253-2780.
Toombs County Lyons The Nelle Brown Memorial Library, located at 166 W. Liberty Avenue in Lyons, will host its weekly Lego Club at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14.
Patrons are invited to come play bingo at the library at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 15.
The library will officially close for an extensive revitalization on Friday, January 16. The library volunteers and employees will host members of the public on Thursday, January 15, as they invite patrons to come share their memories at the library and get a last look at the facility before it receives a facelift.
While the library is closed, books can be returned in the location’s drop box or at the Dr. Mark and Tonya Spivey Public Library, located at 610 Jackson Street in Vidalia.
Vidalia
The Dr. Mark and Tonya Spivey Public Library will host children, ages 12 and under, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, for the monthly STEAM Club, where they will be constructing a confetti cannon.
Children may also craft their own paper fan snowmen during the Kids Craft Club event at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 15.
The weekly Wiggles and Giggles club for children ages 5 and under will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Fridays – including January 16, January 23, and January 30.
The library will host a book signing for local author Robin Griffin’s new children’s book Nanny and the Miracle Onion: Nanny’s Secret Seed from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 17.
Young children and their parents are invited to the weekly Story Time events at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays – including January 20 and January 27. The library is located at 610 Jackson Street in Vidalia and open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday. The library is closed on Sunday. Wheeler County
The Wheeler County Public Library, located at 61 W. Main Street in Alamo, will host Gardening 101 at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20.
The library is filled with resources for all ages, and is open from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Mondays; 10 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Fridays. The library is closed on the weekend. For more information, call (912) 568-7321.
