The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office and Vidalia Police Department worked together to capture a wanted man who had fled from deputies on Wednesday, December 17.
Vidalia Walmart Customers were startled on Wednesday afternoon, as Justin Blake Spires, 34, of Vidalia, ran through the Walmart store in attempts to evade the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office, who were attempting to arrest Spires on multiple outstanding warrants. Deputies requested help from the Vidalia police officers during the chase at around 3:12 p.m., when Spires escaped from deputies through the back of the building. Officers canvassed the scene and observed Spires near the Vidalia Regional Airport, where he again fled on foot into a wooded area.
Law enforcement officers from both agencies established a perimeter to search for the man, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources K-9 Unit and Georgia State Patrol were called in for assistance.
Spires was located later beneath a residence in the 400 block of Ezra Taylor Road. He was taken into custody by the Vidalia Police Department without incident.
At the time of arrest, Spires had multiple outstanding warrants from both the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office and Vidalia Police Department. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
