Wheeler County Seeking Board of Equalization Applicants

During their August session, the Wheeler County Grand Jury will be appointing two individuals to the County’s Board of Equalization; therefore, the Grand Jury is now accepting applications for anyone interested in the role.

The County Board of Equalization is a group of individuals appointed by the Grand Jury, who are charged with hearing and adjudicating administrative appeals to property values and assessments made by the board of tax assessors. Currently, the Board of Equalization is seeking one member and one alternate member, both of whose terms will begin on January 1, 2027, and will end on December 31, 2029. The members will be present for all hearings on these appeals, while the alternate member will only make decisions during the hearings when members cannot be present.

Applicants for these positions must be determined to be qualified and competent to serve on the Wheeler County Grand Jury, own real property, be a high school graduate, and be willing to complete a 40-hour course of training within their first year of appointment and an 8-hour recertification training course each remaining year of their term. Applicants cannot be a member of any county or municipality governing authority, the Board of Education, the Board of Assessors, or an employee of the County Tax Assessors or Tax Appraiser.
