Lady Eagles Advance, Boys Set to Open Play

The Montgomery County High School soccer programs are making their presence felt in the GHSA State Soccer Playoffs. While the boys rested on a first-round bye last week, the Lady Eagles got right to work on Tuesday, dispatching Elite Scholars Academy to secure their spot in the second round.

The opening half against the Lady Knights was a pure defensive struggle. Neither squad gave an inch, sending the game into the break in a scoreless tie. However, the Montgomery County offense found its rhythm after halftime. The Lady Eagles broke through the line to score three times in the second half, limiting the Lady Knights to a single goal to seal the 3-1 victory.

Tamarley Hansley, Cristal Santiago, and Carla Santiago each found the back of the net to drive the Montgomery County offense. On the other end of the pitch, Makailah Moore turned in a rock-solid performance in goal. Moore racked up 12 saves on the afternoon, frustrating the Elite Scholars attack and allowing just the lone goal.

The first-round win pushes the Lady Eagles to a strong 10-4 on the season. They moved on to face a tough Screven County Lady Gamecocks team in the second round after presstime. If Montgomery County advances, they will play next Monday against the winner of the Lake Oconee Academy and Brooks County matchup.

Boys

With their first-round bye behind them, the Montgomery County boys are geared up to open their own playoff run this week. They will host the Atkinson County Rebels in the second round this Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at home.
