Lady Barons Play 2 Series On The Road

The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team was on the road last week as they were in Alabama to face the Lady Eagles of Faulkner University, and then traveled to West Point, GA to take on the Lady Skyhawks of Point University. vs. Faulkner
The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team traveled to Montgomery Ala., to take on the Faulkner Eagles in a conference doubleheader on April 23. The Barons dropped a closely contested game one 4-3 and dropped game two 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh.
Game 1
Faulkner set the tone early with two runs in the first. a two-run single through the left side for a 2-0 lead. The Barons chipped away in the second inning when Alyssa Usrey reached and later scored on a wild pitch, trimming the deficit to 2-1. The Barons rallied at the top of the third when Morgan Willingham hit a two-run home run to left field, pushing Brewton-Parker in front 3-2. The Eagles rallied to erase the lead and take the game. Faulkner responded in the bottom of the third with the game’s final two runs, with an RBI double that put the Eagles back in front, 4-3.
Game 2
Game two was a defensive pitching duel that the Barons struck first in the top of the fifth inning. Madisyn Hallar singled and later came around to score during a sequence that also included Eboni Medina’s single and Tori Wright reaching on a third-base fielding error. Wright was credited with the RBI, while Hallar’s run was unearned, giving the Barons a 1-0 advantage.
Natalie O’Neal kept Brewton-Parker in front deep into the game. The Barons' right-hander worked 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on nine hits with two walks on 91 pitches. O’Neal did not record a strikeout, but she limited the damage for most of the night and carried the lead into the final inning before Faulkner’s string of late hits turned the game. The Eagles struck in the bottom of the seventh to score the game-tying run with an RBI double and then hit a walkoff single to win the game. vs. Point
The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team traveled to West Point, Ga., to take on the Skyhawks of Point University in a SSAC doubleheader on April 24. The Barons won game one off stellar pitching and a two-run homerun to take it 2-1, and rallied from behind in game two to take an 8-6 victory over the Skyhawks and complete the season sweep.
Game 1
Game one saw the Barons rally behind the stellar pitching performance of Samantha Mathews. Mathews allowed four hits and one earned run over seven innings, walked one, and struck out five while throwing 90 pitches. The Barons struck first at the top of the fifth when Abby Banks entered as a pinch runner for Mathews and stole second to move into scoring position. Ayzsa Wooten hit a two-run homer to left field in the top of the fifth, giving the Barons a 2-0 lead. The Night Hawks answered in the bottom of the sixth with a lead-off triple and an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1, but Mathews and the Barons’ defense closed out the game.
Game 2
Game two saw the Barons strike early when Anna Green hit a two-run homer to open the scoring at the top of the first to put the Barons up 2-0. Point answered immediately with two runs in the bottom half, then surged in front with a four-run second inning. The Barons chipped away over the middle innings. Green drove in another run with a single in the third, cutting the deficit to 6-4. Brewton-Parker added two more runs in the fourth, one scoring on a catcher’s error and another on Madisyn Hallar’s RBI groundout, to pull within 6-5. Morgan Willingham then tied the game in the fifth with an RBI double.
Emma Warnock delivered the decisive hit in the seventh. After helping pressure Point throughout the day with two walks and two stolen bases, she lined a two-run single to score the go-ahead runs and give Brewton-Parker an 8-6 lead. The Barons were aggressive on the bases all afternoon, finishing with eight stolen bases while turning eight hits and five walks into consistent scoring chances.
The Barons begin preparations to face the Eagles of Faulkner University in the opening matchup of the SSAC tournament, scheduled for April 30, in Decatur, Alabama.
