Courtesy of Toombs County High School The first competi-tion of the New Year for the MatDawgs had them traveling to Brunswick High Schooltocompete in the Port City Nigel Hamilton Memorial Tournament. The tour-nament is an annual tournament held in honor of Nigel Hamil-ton. Nigel was a stand-out wrestler under now Brunswick head coach Tommy Bartolotta while coaching at Glynn Academy and thentransferred to Camden County. The MatDawgs were abletosecure a 4th place finish as a team, placing 11 of the 14 wrestlers entered intothetop5.The top 3 teams at the tourna-ment were powerhouse CamdenCounty in first place, Glynn Acad-emy insecond place, and Richmond Hill in thirdplace. “I knew with the teams attend-ing that we would have somebattles. These teams are some of the bestinthestate andI was proud of our team for thefight they had.”, said Coach Allenofthe tournament. It was a good week for the Viking basketball teams of Treutlen County High School as they swept Tel-fair County and Jenkins The Vidalia High School tennis teams kicked of their season at Southeast Bulloch last week with the boys coming away with a big win. The Lady Indians fell in their season opener. The Lady Indians dropped their opener to Southeast Bulloch by the score of 5- 0. The boys came out on top 4- 1 in their first matches of the year. Boys won at 1st Doubles Jame-son Rollen and Sukumar Paidi; 2nd Singles, Danny Richardson; 3rd Singles, Larsen Carter; and 2nd Doubles, Ryker Hutto and Stone Smith. Vidalia was at Savan-nah Arts on Tuesday of this week after presstime, and will be back in action on Thursday at Screven County at 4: 00 p. m.
