The Vidalia High School Indians track & field teams competed at the Region Meet last week at Groves High School. Both the boys and girls had a great showing as they both brought home the Region Championship.

Girls

The Vidalia High School Lady Indians turned in a dominant and complete performance to capture the A-Region 3 Track and Field Championship, powered by a wave of individual champions and a deep roster that delivered points in every phase of the meet.

Leading the charge on the track, Zenobia Rollins sprinted to the region title in the 100-meter dash, setting the tone early for Vidalia’s success. Teammate J’Miyah Hunt followed with a victory in the 200-meter dash and later played a key role on two championship relay teams, showcasing her versatility and endurance.

In the middle-distance events, Emilynn Campbell claimed first place in the 800 meters with a strong, strategic race, while Judith Hussey delivered an outstanding distance double, winning both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs to give Vidalia a major boost in points.

The Lady Indians also dominated the hurdles and field events. Kayden Love soared to a region title in the 100-meter hurdles, while in the field, Takaiyah Bacon captured first place in the long jump and Dreshiyah Jackson topped the competition in the triple jump. Kahrysma Peavy added to the championship haul with a winning throw in the discus.

Vidalia’s relay teams proved to be a differencemaker throughout the meet. The 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams—comprised of Kayden Love, Zenobia Rollins, Dreshiyah Jackson, and J’Miyah Hunt—ran to firstplace finishes with explosive speed and clean handoffs. The 4×400 relay team of Messiah Salem, Emilynn Campbell, Mischa Wardlaw, and J’Miyah Hunt capped off the meet with another victory, sealing the team championship in style.

Beyond the event winners, Vidalia’s depth was on full display as numerous athletes secured spots in the upcoming sectional meet by placing in the top four. Kayden Love added a qualifying finish in the 100 meters, while Judith Hussey also placed in the 800. Cannon Sharpton turned in strong performances in both the 1,600 and 3,200, earning her place in sectionals.

Additional qualifiers included Mischa Wardlaw in the 300-meter hurdles, Markayla Berry in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, and Tori Polke in the high jump. Dreshiyah Jackson qualified in the long jump, while Takaiyah Bacon added a qualifying mark in the triple jump. In the pole vault, Messiah Salem secured a top-four finish.

In the throwing events, Deidra Boston and Siniyah Hunt both advanced in the shot put and discus, further demonstrating the Lady Indians’ strength across all disciplines. The 4×800 relay team of Cannon Sharpton, Elizabeth Sowell, Judith Hussey, and Emilynn Campbell also earned a sectional berth with a strong performance.

With a remarkable number of region champions and qualifiers, the Lady Indians have firmly established themselves as one of the top teams in the state. As they advance to the sectional round, Vidalia will look to carry this momentum forward, fueled by a balanced lineup and a championship mindset.

Boys

The Vidalia High School Indians track and field team delivered a commanding performance to capture the A-Region 3 Championship, showcasing both elite individual talent and impressive team depth as they prepare for the next stage of postseason competition.

Leading the way for the Indians was Tyler McKinney, who sprinted to region titles in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, establishing himself as one of the premier sprinters in the region. In the distance events, Cash Driggers turned in a remarkable double victory, winning both the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs with strength and strategy. Teammate Simon Collins added another distance crown, taking first place in the 3,200 meters.

The hurdle events were dominated by Jaydyn Young, who swept both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles with commanding performances, continuing his standout season. In the field events, CJ Monroe secured a region championship in the discus, adding valuable points to the team total.

Vidalia’s relay teams proved to be a major factor in the championship run. The 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams—comprised of Jaydyn Young, Ja’Marre Wiggs, Jamarion Lanier, and Tyler McKinney—ran to firstplace finishes with explosive speed and precision. The 4×800 relay team of Simon Collins, Wyatt Vassey, Adrian Brewton, and Cash Driggers also captured gold, while the 4×400 relay team of Kashun Coney, Alton Boles, Jamarcus Bouyer, and Cash Driggers closed out the meet with another firstplace finish.

In addition to the region champions, the Indians will send a strong group of athletes to the sectional meet after multiple top-four finishes. Andre Jackson qualified in the 100 meters, while Kashun Coney and Jamarcus Bouyer both advanced in the 400 meters. Bouyer also secured a qualifying spot in the triple jump.

Adrian Brewton earned a sectional berth in the 800 meters, and Simon Collins added to his workload with a qualifying finish in the 1,600. Marquis Harvey advanced in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, while Terryon Scott qualified in the pole vault. CJ Monroe will also compete in the shot put after a top-four finish.

With a deep roster of champions and qualifiers, the Indians are well-positioned as they hit the road for the sectional meet at Bleckley County High School on May 2. Carrying the momentum of their ARegion 3 title, Vidalia looks poised to continue its strong postseason run.
