BPCU Barons Compete at SSAC Championships

The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the SSAC Outdoor Track and Field Conference Championships on April 20-21. The Barons men’s team finished fifth in the conference, and the women’s team finished fourth in the conference.
The Barons saw four members of the program qualify for Nationals, including Hollis Morton for the 100m with a time of 10.40 seconds. Sidni Daniels, who qualified for the 100m and 200m with times of 11.81 and 24.39, respectively. JaDelle Major qualified in the javelin with a mark of 42.02m, and finally, Kaiya Bryant qualified for both the triple jump and high jump with marks of 11.91m and 1.67m. Bryant’s mark in the triple jump won her the conference title for the event on top of qualifying for nationals. Morton won the conference high jump with a mark of 2.03m. Major, Bryant, and Daniels (200m) set new school records in their events.

Sidni Daniels. Kalee Mincey took home third place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.65m. Markavius Jones took home third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.73. Payne finished third in the 400m with a time of 58.41. The women’s 4×400 team took home third, and the men’s 4×100 team of Morton, Sean Williams, Jones, and Donta’ Williams. The Barons will focus on preparing for the UNF East Coast Relay on May 1, in Jacksonville, Fla., where they aim to have more national qualifiers.
