Montgomery County Sheriff Ben Maybin is warning citizens not to send payment or any of their personal information to a text message scam, which has been received by numerous citizens.
Cell phone users are the targets for this scam, as individuals are randomly texted fraudulent traffic citations and notices of default from parking or toll violations. Often, these notices appear to be from the State Court of Fulton County Traffic Division and threaten legal action if recipients do not appear in court or pay the traffic tickets.
Sheriff Maybin ensured that there is no legitimacy to these notices and that individuals will not be penalized in any way from ignoring these messages. “This is a scam – please do not scan it, enter any personal information, or pay it,” he emphasized.
