Wheeler Soccer Gets Win

It was a rough stretch on the pitch for Wheeler County soccer this past week. The Bulldogs hosted Montgomery County on Tuesday before hitting the road Friday to face a formidable Georgia Military College squad. Between the two matchups, the boys managed to grind out a hard-fought win at home, while the Lady Bulldogs faced a pair of steep uphill battles.

Girls vs. MCHS

Tuesday’s home stand against the Montgomery County Eagles brought a split result for Wheeler. The girls opened the evening, falling to an aggressive Montgomery attack that eventually rolled to a 7-1 victory. Despite the deficit, the Lady Bulldogs kept fighting for full time to make sure they got on the board.

Boys vs. MCHS

The boys followed up with a much tighter contest. In a physical, backand- forth game, Wheeler broke through and held off the Eagles to secure a wellearned 2-1 win.

Girls vs. GMC

Friday's road trip to Milledgeville proved to be a much taller order for both teams. Taking on GMC away from home is rarely an easy task, and the Bulldogs simply ran into a buzzsaw. The Lady Bulldogs struggled to find their footing against a relentless GMC offense, ultimately dropping the contest 10-0.

Boys vs. GMC

The boys ran into the exact same wall, matching the girls' result with a 10-0 loss of their own. Sometimes you just face a program that is clicking on all cylinders, and Friday was exactly one of those nights where the bounces don't go your way.

Looking ahead, it's a quiet slate for Wheeler this week. The only action on the schedule was the Lady Bulldogs taking on Treutlen this past Monday, with the final result coming in after presstime. Both squads will gladly use this light schedule to rest up, regroup, and get ready for the next stretch of the season.
