At the March 10 meeting of the Vidalia City Schools Board of Education, the Board recognized and celebrated the work of the district’s Young Georgia Authors contest winners.
Each year, the Young Georgia Authors competition helps students to foster a love of writing and celebrate students’ achievement and creativity. For the competition, students can submit a selection of writing of their choice, as entries range from short stories, to poetry, to essays, to personal narratives and more. “Writing is a talent near and dear to my heart – I love to write; I love to use it as a way to tell my story and to tell what’s in my heart,” Superintendent Sandy Reid remarked. “I love that other kids have found the same joy. Some of these kids I know are repeaters – I have seen them here [as winners in this contest] multiple years. So, it just reminds me of all the talent that we have in our school system, and we are thankful for the students putting forth the extra effort.”
She continued, “Kids who put forth the extra effort are not typically born that way – they are raised that way. So, we want to thank the families because I know that you all pour into your kids and give them not only the skill set to do something like participate in a writing competition and excel at it, but also the heart to do it as well. Thank you all – we appreciate you.”
These students will now await the results of the regional competition, which should be announced soon.
