Indians Drop Series to Raiders


The Vidalia High School Indians baseball team played a three-game Region series against Savannah Christian last week. The Indians dropped two out of three against the Raiders, losing Tuesday in Savannah, winning Thursday at home, and losing Friday back in Savannah.
Game 1
In Game 1, Vidalia jumped out to an early lead. They scored three runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI double from Ryan Brantley and a two-run single from Clay Mimbs. The Indians added three more in the second inning. Eion Ryals and Banks Hopkins hit RBI singles, and Veer Patel brought in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.
Savannah answered back quickly. The Raiders scored two runs in the bottom of the second and four more in the third to tie the game at 6-6.
Vidalia briefly retook the lead in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from Jake McCaw, but Savannah tied it again at 7-7 in the bottom of the frame.
Neither team scored in the sixth or seventh innings, forcing extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Savannah hit an RBI single to take the 8-7 win.
Game 2
Vidalia bounced back on Thursday with a 9-1 win. Henry Adams put the Indians on the board with an RBI single in the second inning. In the third inning, Banks Hopkins hit an RBI single and Veer Patel hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead.
Vidalia added another run in the fifth. Savannah scored a run in the top of the sixth to make it 5-1, but the Indians responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Banks Hopkins pitched a complete game, going all seven innings to pick up the win on the mound.
Game 3
Game 3 was a pitcher's duel early on. Neither team scored over the first four innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, Savannah took the lead with four runs. Vidalia scored their only run of the game in the top of the sixth inning.
Savannah put the game away in the bottom of the sixth. The Raiders scored seven runs, capped off by a grand slam, to win 11-1.
This week, Vidalia takes on the Swainsboro Tigers in another threegame Region series. Game 1 was played in Vidalia on Tuesday after presstime. The Indians will host Game 2 on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m., and then travel to Swainsboro for Game 3 on Thursday at 5:45 p.m.
