Crusaders Still Searching for First Win Crusaders Still Searching for First Win

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders baseball team is still searching for their first win of the season, but their 0-7 record doesn't quite capture the resilience this team is showing in the dugout. It was a punishing week on the diamond, with the Crusaders dropping three matchups against Edmund Burke Academy and David Emanuel Academy, though they made sure their opponents had to earn it. vs. EBA

Tuesday’s road game against the Edmund Burke Spartans was a true testament to RTCA's fight. The Spartans came out swinging, building a daunting 10-0 lead by the end of the second inning. After the Crusaders scratched across a run in the top of the third, EBA quickly answered to make it an 11-1 game. Instead of folding, RTCA mounted a furious rally in the fourth inning. The lineup exploded to plate seven runs, suddenly pulling within striking distance at 11-8. They managed one final run in the top of the seventh, but the early hole proved just too steep to climb out of in an 11-9 heartbreak. vs. EBA

Hosting the Spartans on Thursday, the Crusaders flipped the script early. Anderson Moore drove in a run in the bottom of the first inning, and RTCA capitalized on a wild pitch in the third to take a 2-0 lead.

They held that advantage until the top of the fourth, when EBA finally broke through with three runs to take the lead. The Spartans kept the pressure on from there, adding two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to secure a 7-2 win, spoiling RTCA's strong start. vs. DEA

The tough stretch wrapped up at home on Friday against the David Emanuel Academy Eagles. DEA jumped ahead with a five-run second inning, putting the Crusaders on their heels.

RTCA responded with a pair of runs in the third inning to cut into the deficit, but the Eagles' offense kept finding gaps, tacking on three runs in the fifth and a final insurance run in the seventh to hand the Crusaders a 9-2 loss.

The Crusaders will look to translate that fighting spirit into the win column this week during a three-game Region stretch against First Preparatory Christian Academy. The series kicked off on Tuesday after presstime, with the team heading to Hinesville to wrap up the week on Thursday and Friday, both slated for 4:00 p.m. first pitches.
