Eagles Claim Thrilling Walk-Off Win

The Montgomery County High School Eagles baseball team wrapped up a busy week on the diamond, highlighted by a dramatic home victory against the Hawkinsville Red Devils on Monday. The Eagles fought hard but ultimately dropped their next two contests, falling to Dodge County on Wednesday and dropping a road rematch against Hawkinsville on Thursday. vs. Hawkinsville

In Monday’s matchup against Hawkinsville, the Eagles took an early 2-0 lead by the second inning, capped by an RBI hit from Fletcher Thomas. The Red Devils responded with four runs in the third inning and eventually extended their advantage to 6-3 in the sixth.

Refusing to fold, Montgomery County chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a onerun game. The comeback culminated in a tense seventh inning when Ramsey Jordan tied the game with an RBI single, setting the stage for Thomas to deliver a game-winning, walk-off RBI single to secure the 7-6 victory. vs. Dodge Co.

Wednesday’s home game against the Dodge County Indians proved to be a tough outing. The Indians' offense started fast, building a 9-0 lead by the second inning. Montgomery County found the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, but Dodge County put the game out of reach with a massive 16-run surge in the fourth inning, handing the Eagles a 25-2 loss. vs. Hawkinsville

The Eagles hit the road Thursday for a rematch with Hawkinsville, but the Red Devils flipped the script to take a 14-4 win. Jackson Gooden put Montgomery County up 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but Hawkinsville tied the game in the bottom half before blowing it open with a nine-run second inning. The Eagles battled to score twice in the third and once more in the fifth, but the Red Devils consistently answered, ultimately ending the game with a three-run bottom of the fifth to take the win, 14-4.

The Eagles are now 5-7 on the season and they are 3-5 in Region play. Looking ahead, the Eagles hosted Treutlen County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. road game against Twiggs County and will travel to face Treutlen on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
