On Friday, the Bulldogs found themselves in a back-and-forth battle against the Wolverines in Athens. Prince Avenue struck first with a run in the bottom of the opening frame. Toombs County quickly answered in the second when a well-executed sacrifice bunt by Tyler Brantley led to the tying run.
Capitalizing on Wolverines errors in the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs plated two runs to take a 3-1 lead. However, Prince Avenue surged back in front with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. Trailing 4-3 in the sixth, Toombs County dug deep.
The offense exploded for three runs in the inning, highlighted by a massive two-RBI single from Ryder Sears. The pitching staff then locked it down to secure the 6-4 road victory.
TCHS is currently 6-7 on the season and begin Region play this week.
The Bulldogs now turn their attention to the start of their region schedule as they face Savannah Country Day in a crucial threegame series. The action kicks off Thursday with a 6:00 p.m. matchup in Savannah, followed by a doubleheader at home in Lyons on Friday starting at 4:00 p.m.
