Bulldog Soccer Splits Games

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs soccer teams experienced a rollercoaster week of Region play here in Lyons and on the road, dropping a pair of tough matchups at home to the Savannah Country Day Hornets on Tuesday before bouncing back to sweep the Savannah Christian Raiders on Thursday. Both the boys and girls squads now sit at a solid 5-4 overall on the season and 1-1 in Region action. vs. Country Day

The Savannah Country Day Hornets proved to be a tough test for the Bulldogs early in the week. In the girls' matchup, Country Day jumped out to a commanding lead, netting three goals in the first half and adding three more in the second to hand the Lady Bulldogs a 6-0 shutout loss. On the boys' side, things were tightly contested early on. Osvaldo Tinoco found the back of the net for Toombs in the first half, sending the teams into the break locked in a 1-1 tie. However, the Hornets' offense found its rhythm in the second half, scoring three times to run away with a 4-1 victory.

Girls vs. Savannah

Thursday brought a change of scenery and a change of fortune as the Bulldogs traveled to take on the Raiders. The Lady Bulldogs set the tone early, picking up a goal in the first half to secure a 1-0 lead by halftime. They kept the pressure on in the second half, adding two more goals while yielding just one, coasting to a 3-1 win over the Lady Raiders.

Boys vs. Savannah

The boys' game against Savannah Christian was an absolute thriller that required a shootout to decide a winner. Trailing the Raiders 3-2 at the half, the Bulldogs battled back. Behind an offensive surge powered by two goals apiece from Juan Luna and Daniel Santoyo, Toombs outscored the Raiders 2-1 in the second half to tie the game at 4-4 and force overtime. In the decisive shootout, the Bulldogs stayed composed, finding the back of the net four times while allowing just two Savannah Christian goals to seal the dramatic victory.

Looking ahead, Woodville-Tompkins visited TCHS on Tuesday in a matchup that concluded after presstime. The Lady Bulldogs will wrap up the week's action on the road, traveling to face St. Vincent's on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
