The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 5-7. The Barons had several standout performances, including their first female All-American and an individual National Champion.

Hollis Morton won the National Championship for the High Jump with a final mark of 2.1 meters, becoming just the second person in Brewton-Parker track and field history to win a national title. In doing so, he also became an All-American for the event. Kiara Green, a true freshman, led the way on the women’s side, earning All-American honors for the 60m race. The Barons also saw a brand new school record for the women’s 4×400 relay race with a time of 3:52.20, while the team, Kiara Gree, Sidni Daniels, Kamron Noble, and Kendra Payne, did not reach the podium, they made tremendous strides this season. Morton also claimed a school record with his winning mark of 2.1m.

Track and Field Director Tony Hawkins reflected on the competition, saying, “Great end to the indoor season, highlighted by the performance at nationals. We will carry this momentum into the outdoor season.”

The Barons will begin preparations for the outdoor season and kick off the year at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C., starting March 19-21.
