Treutlen Vikings Break Into State Top 10


The Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team had a highly successful week on the diamond, officially moving into the top 10 in the State Class A Division 2 rankings at number 9. The Vikings secured dominant blowout victories over Wheeler County and Baldwin before dropping a hard-fought road contest to Trinity Christian of Dublin. vs. Wheeler Co.
On Tuesday, the Vikings ran away with a 16-1 victory over the Wheeler County Bulldogs. Caden Parrish ignited the offense with a two-run double in the top of the first inning, sparking a six-run rally aided by bases-loaded walks.
Wheeler managed a run in the bottom half of the inning, but Treutlen quickly answered with RBI hits from DJ Steptoe and Michael Boone to push the lead to 8-1. The Vikings sealed the win early by plating eight more runs in the third inning, powered by hits from Boone, Gavin Wood, Brylan Ikner, and Acie Dickens. vs. Baldwin Treutlen continued their offensive onslaught on Wednesday, rolling to a 19-4 win over the Baldwin Braves. The game was essentially decided in the bottom of the first inning when the Vikings exploded for 17 runs, featuring key RBI hits from Dickens, Steptoe, CJ Jackson, Jack Walker, and Parrish.
Treutlen added a run in the second, and despite Baldwin managing four runs in the top of the third to keep the game alive, the Vikings cruised to the finish line by adding one final run in the fourth inning. vs. Trinity
The winning streak snapped on Thursday against the Trinity Christian Crusaders in an 8-4 loss. Treutlen struck first, getting on the board with a pair of RBI singles in the opening frame.
However, Trinity answered with a run in the bottom of the first and seized control with a massive five-run second inning to take a 6-2 lead. The Crusaders added single runs in the third and sixth innings to extend their advantage.
The Vikings fought back with two runs in the top of the seventh, but the late rally ultimately fell short.
On Monday of this week, the Vikings hosted Mary Persons after presstime. Treutlen will look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they travel to face Jenkins County at 5:30 p.m.
