Eagles Split Weekly Matchups
The Montgomery County High School Eagles baseball team hit the field for a pair of matchups last week. They picked up a road win over the Jenkins County War Eagles on Monday before dropping a home game to the Wilcox County Patriots on Wednesday. vs. Jenkins Co.
Against Jenkins County, MCHS took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The scoring was sparked by an RBI triple from Luke Burns that brought in one run, followed by a fielding error.
Jenkins quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game.
The Eagles regained control in the second inning. Jackson Gooden and Fletcher Thomas delivered RBI hits to put the team up 4-2.
Jenkins managed a run in the bottom of the second to narrow the gap to 4-3.
However, MCHS maintained the pressure. They plated single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure a solid 6-3 victory. vs. Wilcox Co.
Wednesday brought a much tougher test against Wilcox County. The game resulted in a runrule defeat for the Eagles. The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. They steadily built momentum, crossing the plate five times in the second for a 6-0 advantage.
Wilcox then blew the game open in the third inning. They exploded for 13 runs to seal a decisive 19-0 win over MCHS.
Looking ahead, Montgomery hosted Hawkinsville this Monday just after presstime. The Eagles will be back in action to defend their home turf against Dodge County on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. They follow that up with a road trip to face Hawkinsville on Thursday, also at 5:30 p.m.
