BPC Esports Win Queen City Clash

The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons Esports Rocket League team traveled to Cinccinati Ohio take part in the Queen City Clash tournament February 28- March 1. The Barons opened the tournament strongly, going undefeated in group play before going into bracket play. In bracket play, the Barons defeated everyone but the University of South Carolina to reset the bracket. The Barons rebounded and defeated the Gamecocks 3-0 to win the tournament.

The Barons team, featuring Cas “Cass” Hey, Shane “Antix” Watson, and captain Tyler “Mylk” Pullen, opened up, taking on the University of Central Florida Knights esports team and winning 3-0, before sweeping Kennesaw State’s B team 3-0. UCF’s Rising team was the first team to take a game from the Barons squad, but ultimately lost 3-1. The Barons rounded out group play, taking down Michigan University esports 3-0.

In bracket play, the Barons opened up, taking on the Gamecocks and winning 3-0 before taking on the University of Cincinnati Bearcats 3-0. The Barons then faced off against the University of Tennessee at Knoxville 4-0. In the double elimination final, the Gamecocks bounced back and evened the series at 1-1, winning the game 4-2. In the final showdown, the Barons got back to dominant form and won 3-0 to take the Queen City Clash.

The Director of the Esports team, Cody Johansen, reflected on the team’s win, saying, “I couldn’t be more proud of the resilience and dominance that our players showed all throughout the tournament. Winning the Grand Finals certainly tasted sweeter with the whole venue cheering against us.”

The Barons Esports program will look to continue their winning ways as they prepare to head to Eastern Tennessee State University for their next tournament, starting March 6.
