Wheeler Bulldogs Best Trojans
The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs baseball team made the most of a light schedule last week, securing a solid 7-3 home victory over the Telfair County Trojans on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs came out swinging, jumping to a commanding 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Landyn Horne opened the scoring with a crucial hit, followed quickly by a clutch two-RBI single from Jackson Scott. Rhett McCranie capped off the early offensive surge by driving in another run to put Wheeler firmly in control of the game's momentum.
Telfair County steadily chipped away at the deficit over the next few innings. The Trojans plated a run in the top of the second and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to narrow the Wheeler lead to a tense 4-3.
However, the Bulldogs responded perfectly in the bottom of the sixth. Wheeler rallied to push three more insurance runs across the plate, extending their advantage back out to 7-3. The defense then held strong in the top of the seventh, shutting the door on Telfair to seal the home win.
Looking ahead, Wheeler hosted Treutlen County this past Tuesday after presstime. The Bulldogs will be back on the diamond to defend their home turf when the Dodge County Indians come to town for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
