Vidalia Lifts Burn Ban

The City of Vidalia has officially lifted the open burn ban, which was put in place several weeks ago to help combat the dry conditions that were causing fires to quickly become unmanageable throughout the area.
Residents may now burn small piles of natural debris if the fire is continuously attended and a water source is available to help the blaze to be properly controlled. All debris piles larger than 3 feet by 3 feet will have to be approved by Vidalia Fire Chief Brian Sikes before being burned.
Burning materials must also continue to abide by the city’s guidelines, as plastics, metals and wires, glass, tires and rubber, grease and asphalt products, liquid petroleum products and hazardous wastes, furniture and mattresses, building and demolition debris, and animal wastes or carcasses are prohibited from being burned at any time.
City officials encourage citizens to use extreme caution, monitor weather conditions, and follow all fire safety measures to prevent fires from becoming uncontrollable. Fire officials will continue to enforce restrictions on illegal burning, and violations will be subject to penalties, including fines and citations. If any smoke complaints are made, citizens will be asked to extinguish the fire immediately.
